Expanded Shanghai Book Fair to open in August

A bigger than usual Shanghai Book Fair will take place from Aug 13 to 19 at two major venues in the city, the municipality announced on Wednesday.
In addition to its regular venue at Shanghai Exhibition Center, the 2025 Shanghai Book Fair has expanded to a second venue at Shanghai Book Mall, a brick-and-mortar bookstore spread over seven floors at 465 Fuzhou Road. This will significantly increase the floor space of the fair to an unprecedented 42,000 square meters.
According to Quan Heng, director of the municipal administration's press and publications, the Shanghai Book Fair has developed through the last number of decades into an important cultural brand, not only for the city, but also for the whole of China.
"It is an industry fair of the publication sector, as well as a festival of all the book-loving public," Quan said.
Themed exhibitions, publications from the honored guest province of Hunan, and new publications from the city and other parts of China will be presented at Shanghai Exhibition Center. A series of lectures, forums, reading promotions, book launches and Shanghai International Literary Week events will also take place here.
Shanghai Book Mall will optimize its presentation of books, showcase reading-related merchandise and host a series of exhibitions featuring subjects and characters from popular books.
This year, the book fair will collaborate with the Shanghai Tourism Association to launch new tour routes that take visitors to the former residences of renowned authors, landmark sites in the city's history, as well as locations relevant to the city's intangible cultural heritage.
