With the assistance of four police dogs, police officers from Chuxiong, Yunnan province recently successfully rescued an 80-year-old man who went missing, Xinhua News Agency reported.

The elderly man from Sanjie township in Chuxiong, went into the mountains to collect firewood and did not return as expected. The incident was reported to the police after attempts by his family to contact him proved futile.

Local police immediately dispatched a team of experienced handlers along with four police dogs to carry out a search-and-rescue operation.

Heavy rain in recent days had left mountain paths muddy and slippery, making the search particularly difficult. However, the rescue team persevered through the harsh conditions, trudging through mud and dense forest.

Among the four dogs, there is a one-year-old named Badun. Despite suffering an injury from a sharp branch while going through dense bushes, the dog continued his role in search efforts after receiving treatment on the spot.

After searching for 35 hours, guided by Badun's barking, the team finally spotted the man in a forested ravine, conscious and without any injuries. The team carried him to safety.

Badun, born in May 2024, began duties earlier this year after a series of training. Despite its young age, Badun has participated in 43 search-and-rescue missions and helped rescue 6 people.
