The recent wave of COVID-19 infections across China reached a peak in late May and has since been subsiding for three consecutive weeks, said a disease control researcher during a news conference on Friday.

Yang Peng, a researcher at the Beijing Center for Disease Prevention and Control, said that the COVID-19 epidemic has been falling steadily and the spread of influenza flu and other respiratory diseases is at a low level.

In Beijing, the COVID-19 cases have been decreasing since early May and the overall intensity of this round of epidemic is lower than previous ones.

There is no significant change in clinical severity of recent infections and the operations of fever clinics remain normal, he added.
