BEIJING -- Zhu Zhisong, former secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Pudong New Area District Committee in East China's Shanghai, has been expelled from the CPC and dismissed from public office for serious violations of Party discipline and laws, an official statement said on Tuesday.

Zhu, an alternate member of the 20th CPC Central Committee, was formerly a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee.

An investigation by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision found that Zhu had resisted investigations into his conduct, according to the statement.

The investigation found that Zhu had made unauthorized decisions to reduce the transfer price of state-owned land-use rights and had intervened in project contracting, violating relevant regulations.

The statement added that he had abused his position to seek benefits for others in project contracting and business operations, illegally receiving large sums of money and valuables in return.

The investigators believe Zhu had committed both duty-related malfeasance and the crime of taking bribes, the statement said.

In line with Party regulations and laws, a decision was made to expel him from the Party, remove him from public office and confiscate his illicit gains.

Zhu was also stripped of his qualifications as a delegate to the 20th CPC National Congress, as well as to the local CPC congresses of Shanghai and the Pudong New Area, respectively.

His case will be referred to the procuratorate for review and prosecution, the statement revealed.
