Shanghai reported one locally transmitted COVID-19 case on Monday, the municipal government announced on Tuesday.

As of 3 pm Tuesday, 78 close contacts, 199 secondary close contacts, and more than 19,000 individuals related to the case have been identified and subjected to the related prevention and control measures.

Test results of related individuals available by 3 pm Tuesday are all negative.

The case is a 56-year-old retired worker who lives in Putuo district. She went to Tongji Hospital after developing a fever on Monday afternoon. She later tested positive and became a confirmed case on Tuesday.

Wu Jinglei, director of the Shanghai Municipal Health Commission, said that the case, who had received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, only has mild symptoms and is in stable condition.

The Shiquan Community Cultural Activity Center on Ningqiang Road within Putuo district has been classified as a medium-risk zone.

Wu said the city has been placed under constant pressure by both imported and local cases in the country.

"The number of imported cases receiving treatment at the designated hospital in Shanghai reached a new high on Monday," said Wu, adding that more respiratory and infectious disease doctors as well as traditional Chinese medicine experts and mental health physicians were being dispatched to the hospital from city-level medical institutions to provide medical support.

"We've also dispatched pediatricians from children's hospitals as the number of imported child cases is rising," he said.
