During their meeting, Cui said the DPJ has always attached great importance to Sino-Japanese relations and hoped the ties can be further promoted after the DPJ officially assumes power.

Cui said the purpose of the half-hour meeting is mainly to greet DPJ's victory and the two sides didn't touch upon specific issues.

Hatoyama said the DPJ and himself had always had close contact with China and welcomed the peaceful development of China. He hoped China and Japan could deepen cooperation in regional and international issues.

He also told the ambassador that he believed under the new situation Sino-Japanese relations will be further developed.

Hatoyama also met South Korean ambassador Kwon Chul Hyun on Friday. He held talks with ambassadors from the United States and Russia on Thursday, after speaking on the phone with US President Barack Obama earlier in the day.
