Comment on "Sino-Japan ties not affected by PM's resignation" (chinadaily.com.cn June 2)

Japanese prime ministers come and go so often that hardly had one handshake been warmed, another new hand is extended. That is Japanese democracy. Surely Japan needs to find a leader who is able to handle the country longer, in the interest of Japan and Asia.

Mr. Yukio Hatoyama's resignation should not affect the warm ties between China and Japan. Hopefully whoever takes over will make it a point not to visit the Yokoshuni Shrine to harm ties between Japan and the countries in the neighborhood, especially China and the ROK.

I would like the new Japanese leader to carry out the ideals of Mr. Yukio Hatoyama, especially the removal of the US air base off Okinawa and to realign Japan with Asia rather than base its military relationship with the Americans.

Japan is strong enough to defend itself from any attack, which is most unlikely under the present and future circumstances. Japan does not need American protection.

Asia wants to have an atmosphere of peace and harmony to develop and grow together in an Asian community. Japan can help Mr. Hatoyama's dream come true. I believe it is also an Asian dream.

Let's hope for Asia for Asians.
