Tai'an's travel market boost during Spring Festival

The city of Tai'an in Shandong province received 1.2 million tourists at its various tourist destinations during the week-long Spring Festival holiday, 11.6 percent more than last year. Tourism revenues totaled 1.1 billion yuan ($175 million) during the period; 17 percent up on the previous year, according to statistics.

The Mount Taishan scenic spot – where China's most revered sacred mountain is located - received 440,700 tourists, 41 percent more than last year. The area also took revenues of more than 21 million yuan, 51 percent more than the previous Spring Festival.

The city's 11 major scenic spots received 866,700 tourists in total during the seven-day holiday, with admission fees totaling 51.5 million yuan.

Tourists from other parts of China, as well as South Korea and Japan, flocked to Tai'an during the holiday. Folk culture activities, hot springs and ski runs were hugely popular.
