The Yungang Grottoes were built against the mountain and extend about 1 kilometer from east to west.
 
Datong was originally the capital of the Northern Wei Dynasty and the ' auxiliary capital' of Liao (AD 916-1125) and Jin (AD 1115-1234). As the political and economic center, many temples, pagodas and Buddhist buildings were set up in Datong during these periods.
 
Hanging Temple 2012-07-23
Hanging Temple is located at the foot of Hengshan Mountain in Hunyuan county, hanging on the rock cliff of Jinlong gorge, 65 kilometers away from the Datong city.

Chunyang Temple is a Taoist architecture built in the Qing Dynasty (1636-1911).
 
The tower is the center of the temple. Other buildings include a Bell Tower, a Scripture Hall, a Giant Buddha Pavilion and two Side Halls. They are arranged in line from south to north.
 
Datong Mosque 2011-09-28
Datong Mosque is one of the most well-known Muslim temples in Shanxi province. According to the temple’s stele, this ancient mosque was first built in the Yongle period of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
 
Guan Yu Temple 2011-09-28
According to historical records, the Guan Yu Temple was firstly built in Yuan Dynasty.
 
Datong Confucian Temple, originally built in the 29th year of Hongwu in Ming Dynasty (AD 1396), is located at the southeast of the city.
 
Shanhua Temple 2011-09-28
Shanhua Temple, originally known as Kaiyuan Temple, was built in the Kaiyuan period of the Tang dynasty (AD 713-741).
