2015-12-15

A Peking Opera troupe from Jilin province have found a way to remember the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression (1937-1945), with a modern opera, Yang Jingyu, performed at Beijing's National Center for the Performing Arts, on Dec 13.

In commenting on the work, China's Culture Minister Luo Shugang, says, "It is a good story, and good performance, and suitable, with its anti-war appeal," then notes that this is especially so, for the 70the anniversary of the end of World War II.

The protagonist, Yang Jingyu (1905-1940), was a major figure in the Northeast's Anti-Japanese force in the fight against Japanese invaders more than 75 years ago, after Japanese troops invaded the region.

Ni Maocai, who has the role of Yang in the play, tries to show Yang's heroic acts and patriotic spirit with his loud and sonorous voice and the performance received a warm response from the audience.
