| Updated: 2012-07-13 16:24 | ( www.ynhybx.com ) |

Nantong Blue Calico Art Gallery was set up in 1997 by Wu Yuanxin, a folk artist from Nantong. As one of China’s traditional printing and dying styles, blue calico is famous for its handmade printing and dying process, native and simple design. The most typical design is the blue background with white flowers or white background with blue flowers. To preserve and spread Nantong blue calico, the first private-owned art gallery has a collection of thousands of antique blue calicos and drawings from the Ming and Qing dynasties and preserves a large number of traditional fine items. It offers a good opportunity for people to learn, appreciate and study the folk arts and crafts by showing the traditional processing of Nantong blue calico. Therefore, Nantong blue calico, a traditional folk art, will be inherited and developed by future generations.

Nantong blue calico also plays a part in modern lives. It is used to make door curtains, wall hangings, tablecloth, shoes and hats, bags and toys. It has become more and more popular among people and tourists from home and abroad marvel at the ancient traditional art.
