Nantong governs three districts, five counties (county-level cities) and one national economic and technological development area, namely Chongchuan district, Gangzha district, Tongzhou district, Hai'an county, Rugao city, Rudong county, Haimen city, Qidong city, and Nantong Economic and Technological Development Area. With a total population of 7.89 million, the city covers an area of 8,001 square kilometers.
