On May 28th and 29th, DRC and French Segalen Foundation co-organized a Roundtable on “Heritage Preservation in the Process of Urban Renovation” in Chengdu. Mr. Valery Giscard d’Estaing, former French President, Mr. Hervé LADSOUS, French Ambassador to China, Mr. Xu Kuangdi, President of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Mr. Zhang Yutai, DRC President and Mr. Sun Xiaoyu, former DRC Vice President were present at the meeting. The Roundtable had heated and frank discussions on the topics of significance of heritage preservation, opportunities and challenges and coordination between urban renovation and heritage preservation. Mr. Valery Giscard d’Estaing and Mr. Zhang Yutai summarized the meeting in the end. French officials, scholars and representatives of enterprises, leaders and scholars from Chinese Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, Museums Association, Archaeology Association, Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage, Chinese Academy of Urban Planning and Design, Tsinghua University, Tongji University, Chengdu Municipality, Sichuan Academy of Classic construction and Gardening, Shui On Group, Wuzhen Tourism Development Co. Ltd. and Sina.com were present at the meeting. Mme. Sun Lanlan, Director General of the International Cooperation Department, Mr. Lin Jiabin, Deputy Director General of the Department of Social Development and Mr. Ding Ningning from the Department of Social Development participated in the roundtable.
