這種習(xí)俗在17世紀(jì)早期起源于法國，后來在英國也開始流行起來。不過在英國，戴假發(fā)要根據(jù)不同社會等級和職業(yè)而有所區(qū)別。為了和普通老百姓有所區(qū)別，那些重要人物戴的假發(fā)往往比一般人的假發(fā)要大得多，因此就被稱為“big wigs”。所以，現(xiàn)在bigwig的意思也就是“a person of importance”。
