Putin's bodyguard to flex muscles in China
(China News Agency)
Updated: 2005-12-14 09:28

The 2005 Chinese Kung Fu and World Professional Karate Challenge will be held in Guangzhou on December 23, with a rather well-connected competitor taking part.

One of the challengers in the 90-kilo category has been confirmed as Russian President Vladimir Putin's bodyguard Serguei.

After being defeated in Foshan, Guangdong, last year, the Russian Federation of Kyokushin Karate is looking forward to an opportunity for revenge.

In September, the federation invested US$2 million in organizing a world-class karate contest in Moscow.

According to Yu Hongjian, an official from the organizing committee of the challenge, Putin's bodyguard will be among those taking part.
