Iran may delay resuming nuke work

Iran may postpone resumption of uranium reprocessing, the head of the country's nuclear agency said Thursday after Tehran came under increased European pressure not to end its suspension of a program that officials fear could result in a nuclear bomb.

"No certain day is fixed for resumption of reprocessing. It is possible to postpone it some days," Gholamreza Aghazadeh, the head of Iran's Atomic Organization, told the Tehran state-run television in a live roundtable discussion.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair said earlier Thursday that he would support Iran being referred to the U.N. Security Council if it breaches its nuclear obligations, sending a strong warning against any resumption of the reprocessing program.

Iran announced Sunday that it would resume some conversion activities within days, expressing impatience with deadlocked negotiations with the Europeans over its nuclear program. The announcement sparked a Europan warning of "negative" consequences for Iran.
