Princess Letizia, the future Queen of Spain, is
three months pregnant with her first child, the Royal Palace has
announced.
Letizia Ortiz, 32, married Crown Prince Felipe, 37, in May last year,
shortly after the Madrid train bombings.
The baby, due in November, will be second in line to the throne after
the prince, who is King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia's only son.
If the child is a girl, she will be in line to the throne after any
sons that Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia might have in the future.
Under the Spanish constitution, the eldest male automatically succeeds,
even if he has an older sister.
However, Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero has pledged to
change the law, saying it discriminates against female royals.
The couple took Spain by surprise when they announced their engagement
in November 2003.
The crown prince's romance with a woman who was a well-known television
presenter and a divorcee had been kept a secret. They had met at a dinner
party during the previous year.
King Carlos said the pregnancy was "great news".
Prince Felipe's sister, Princess Cristina, the second daughter of King
Carlos and Queen Sofia, is also pregnant and expected to have her fourth child at the beginning
of the summer.

如果出生的是一個女孩，她的王位繼承權將排在費利佩王儲和萊蒂齊婭王妃將來可能生育的兒子之后。
根據(jù)西班牙現(xiàn)行憲法，最年長的男性自動繼承王位，即使他有一位姐姐。
但是，西班牙首相薩帕特羅已經宣布將修改這一法律，他認為此法歧視王室女性成員。
2003年11月，當這對情侶宣布訂婚時，著實讓西班牙民眾吃了一驚。
此前，王儲和萊蒂齊亞的羅曼史是被嚴格保密的。萊蒂齊亞曾經是一位著名的電視節(jié)目主持人，而且還離過婚。2002年，他們在一次宴會初次相遇。
卡洛斯國王表示王妃懷孕是個“大好消息”。
費利佩王儲的姐姐——國王胡安·卡洛斯和王后索菲亞的二女兒克里斯蒂娜，也懷有身孕了，初夏時節(jié)她將生下第四個孩子。
