Joan Chen to direct new movie

自《天浴》和《少女小漁》笑傲亞太影展和臺(tái)灣地區(qū)金馬獎(jiǎng)之后，旅美華人作家嚴(yán)歌苓的長(zhǎng)篇小說(shuō)《扶桑》也將被搬上熒屏，并再度由嚴(yán)歌苓的老搭檔、美籍華裔女星陳沖執(zhí)導(dǎo)。這將是一部由好萊塢投資 5000萬(wàn)美元的大制作影片，而三位華人國(guó)際女星舒淇、張曼玉、章子怡成為女主角“妓女扶?！钡淖罴押蜻x。  

43-year-old director Joan Chen is still very charming

Actress-turned-director Joan Chen is to direct a film called The Lost Daughter of Happiness, based on the latest novel written by her long-time partner Yan Geling, Shenzhen Daily reported Thursday.

Yan, a Chinese writer living in the United States, and Chen have successfully cooperated twice before. Siao Yu and Xiu Xiu: The Sent Down Girl achieved great success in the Asia-Pacific Film Competition and the Golden Horse Awards.

Yan's bestselling book The Lost Daughter of Happiness depicts the enslaved life of early Chinese settlers in the United States through the love story of a Chinese woman Fusang and an American man.

The actress to play Fusang still remains a mystery. The production company is considering famous actresses Zhang Ziyi and Gong Li because of their international fame. However, Yan and Chen prefer Hong Kong actress Shu Chi because she better reflects the character of Fusang.
