'Shopping in China' boosting global perception of China

The "Shopping in China" campaign not only promotes consumption but also serves as a strategic tool to enhance China's image among international visitors, said Zhang Xiaoyan, associate dean at Tsinghua University's PBC School of Finance.
"I personally feel 'Shopping in China' is a pretty good campaign to raise sentiment among foreigners about what's happening in China," she said. "And, of course, we make money in the process. Having other people coming into China helps to upgrade our tourism industry."
To better support the initiative, Zhang suggested that government agencies could further enhance the consumer experience. "I think the municipal governments or the financial infrastructure departments can make the experience smoother for foreign consumers," she added.
