China finds EU brandy dumped

China has determined that brandy imported from the European Union has been sold at unfairly low prices — or dumped — but will accept minimum price commitments proposed by EU businesses, the Ministry of Commerce said on Friday.

In its final ruling on the anti-dumping investigation, published on its website, the ministry concluded that “imported brandy from the EU has been dumped, and the relevant domestic industry has faced a threat of material injury”.

However, following a legal review, the ministry said it will accept minimum price commitments — known as price undertakings — submitted by relevant industry associations and companies from the EU. Imported brandy that complies with the terms of these undertakings will be exempt from anti-dumping duties, the statement said.

The anti-dumping probe was launched on January 5, 2024, in response to a petition filed by the China Alcoholic Drinks Association on behalf of the domestic industry.
