NEW YORK -- The White House on Monday informed Harvard University that it violated federal civil-rights law by inadequately addressing threats and harassment against Jewish students.

In a letter to Harvard President Alan Garber, US government attorneys said the university acted with "deliberate indifference" despite knowing students felt unsafe, and warned that continued failure to implement immediate changes would result in losing all federal funding, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.

Harvard has not responded publicly to the letter.

The White House has previously threatened to freeze over $2 billion?in grants and block Harvard's international student enrollment. Harvard has filed a lawsuit, alleging violations of its First Amendment and due-process rights.
