The 2012 Summer Olympics in London will be the "Greenest Games in History", the event's organizers promised on Tuesday as they launched a sustainable development strategy.

British Prime Minister Tony Blair joined in the calls, writing in The Guardian daily that the organizers should "aspire to be the greenest games of the modern era," with 2,012 days left before the event's opening ceremony.

The prime minister is also hosting a seminar at his Downing Street office, along with London Mayor Ken Livingstone and the minister responsible for the Olympics Tessa Jowell, to endorse the Olympic Delivery Authority's (ODA) strategy.

The ODA, responsible for creating the Olympic venues and infrastructure, has pledged to cut carbon emissions linked to the????Olympic Park and other venues by 50 percent, more than the 44 percent reduction required by new regulations due to be introduced in 2013.

Other measures to be put in place include lowering waste, green transportation, and the high re-use of materials during the construction of the venues.
